A much anticipated stop on our travels north was the Redwood forests of northern California.

I have a HUGE affinity with trees, and remember with vivid fondness our last trip through these majestic forests several years ago. This trip was blessed with angels and sign posts like never before. Just inside the Redwood forest, we made a spontaneous stop in one small road-side “town” (a  miniature Gasoline Alley -outside Red Deer, AB – of sorts) for lunch.Shilo under fallen tree

James asked if there was a nature place to eat with picnic tables and sure enough the stunning Avenue of the Giants began only a mile away. It was a route parallel to the I-5 that ran more into the Redwoods and it was filled with picnic sites. So we stopped for lunch and a luxurious walk through these HUGE trees and lush ferns, moss and greenery.

This is my amazing man James hugging trees!

If only the pictures did justice to the epic size, vast height and magical, ancient qualities of the area.

It was a delight though to spend as much time here as we did!
