A Blast from the Past!

From Shilo’s laptop Monday night…

A Blast from the PastSo… in all of this purging and releasing, I found a  folded slip of paper with my handwriting on it. Turns out it is from 10+ years ago, and it is the “shopping list” of essential qualities and characteristics I wanted in my future partner! It is quite the list.

This was a great exercise for me. I wrote the list (2 pages!) and then “forgot” about it – that is, I filed it away somewhere and didn’t obsess or do mental gymnastics over it. The universe knew what was in my highest and best good. The list was more about me.

My list included things like: he’s romantic, creative, has a good sense of purpose in his life, respectful, trustworthy, honest, is committed to his own personal growth and development, is loyal, patient, someone who wants the same kind of relationship I do, even tempered – excellent anger & conflict mgmt skills, desires to travel internationally, and more!

Writing it down was brilliant for me for 3 reasons.

  1. It was an exercise in identifying my core values and priorities.
  2. It was about recognizing and owning that I am worthy and deserving of someone with all of those qualities.
  3. The third aspect of creating that list was the biggest stretch for me. I asked myself this crucial question, “Who do I need to become to attract a man of those qualities (of that caliber) into my life? A Blast from the PastWhat growth, maturing, learning, releasing, letting go etc do I need to do?”

As I look at the list now, all these years later, I see that the universe did bring me an amazing man with all of those qualities, and more! I am deeply blessed.

That double-sided list is also a celebration. It is an acknowledgment of the amazing woman I have become. I am SO grateful for the journey, and that I get to walk my path now with a great man by my side: my husband, James Downie.

Namaste.

🙂 Shilo
